Zendaya is an American actress, singer, and model. She rose to prominence on the sitcom, Shake It Up. She was born Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman on September 1, 1996, in Oakland California. Her father, Kazembe, is black and her mother, Claire, is white. She has five siblings, Julien, Austin, AnnaBella, Katianna, and Kaylee.
Zendaya attended Oakland School for the Arts. She also studied at the California Shakespeare Theater, the American Conservatory Theater, and the Cal Shakes Conservatory Program. Her early stage credits include ‘Once on This Island’, ‘Caroline, or Change’, ‘Richard III’, and ‘Twelfth Night’. Zendaya took hula dance lessons at the Academy of Hawaiian Arts. She was a member of the dance group, Future Shock Oakland.

As a fashion Model, Zendaya had early success working for Macy’s and Old Navy. She was a back-up dancer for Selena Gomez in a 2009 Sears commercial. She also appeared in the Kidz Bop’s cover of Katy Perry‘s single “Hot n Cold”. Zendaya released her debut single “Swag It Out” in 2011. She signed with Hollywood Records in 2012 and released her self-titled debut album on September 17, 2013. In 2016 she released the song “Something New” featuring Chris Brown.
Zendaya made her television debut as “Rocky Blue” on the Disney Channel sitcom, Shake It Up. She starred alongside Bella Thorne for three seasons from 2010-2013. Zendaya followed up with lead roles in the television films Frenemies (2012) and Zapped (2013). She lent her voice to the animated film, Pixie Hollow Games (2011). Zendaya competed and finished runner-up on the sixteenth season of Dancing with the Stars. She currently plays the lead character “K.C. Cooper” on the Disney series, K.C. Undercover.
