Gen V may be a spin-off of The Boys, but the show has already surpassed the original series in one major way before season 1 is even over.

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Gen V episode 5!

Summary

Gen V is really making a name for itself, as the spin-off series is already beating The Boys in one all-important area. The Boys is one of the most iconic streaming shows of the past few years, with its superhero stories, graphic content, and massive amounts of gore allowing the show to make a name for itself. Gen V is the first live-action spin-off of The Boys, and while some fans were worried that the series wouldn't live up to the original, Gen V is proving itself to be just as good. Interestingly, though, Gen V has managed to improve upon one major aspect of The Boys.

Gen V is finally out, with season 1 of the highly-anticipated spin-off of Amazon Prime Video's The Boys currently in the midst of releasing. Gen V looks at the world of the franchise through a new lens, with the series this time exploring a supe college known as Godolkin University. Gen V carries on many of the hallmarks of The Boys franchise, including its unique superhero powers and overarching villainous corporation, Vought. However, Gen V also manages to double down on one of The Boys' most iconic elements, beating the original series in a major and important way.

Gen V Is Way More Graphic Than The Boys

Although The Boys is a pretty graphic show, Gen V manages to be even more graphic, cranking the dial up another level. The sexual content of Gen V is far more prevalent than any previous season of The Boys, with almost every episode having nudity or some kind of sex scene. While The Boys does have its fair share of sexual content, it never lingers on it as much as Gen V does. Gen V has found the line for sexual content and crossed it, massively pushing boundaries. Nudity in Gen V is used for comedy and for drama, with it playing into every aspect of the series.

Many of Gen V's most popular scenes involve nudity, showing just how integral it is to the show. For example, Gen V has an unhealthy obsession with penises, with Emma shrinking down and hanging off a penis in episode 1, and Marie causing a penis to explode later in the series. The cliffhanger for episode 4 sees Marie and Jordan wake up in bed together, presumably having had sex, and Emma's giant form is seen nude several times. Love Sausage, a character from The Boys known for his giant penis, also appears in Gen V, showing that the series truly wants to push nudity further than ever before.

Gen V Makes The Boys Season 3's Herogasm Disappointment Worse

Gen V mixes sex and superpowers in some incredibly unique ways, making The Boys season 3's Herogasm disappointment worse. Going into The Boys season 3, "Herogasm" was one of the most anticipated episodes, with it adapting the famous comic storyline in which a large number of supes get together for a super-powered orgy. While the episode did contain some fun antics, "Herogasm" wasn't nearly as wild as the marketing hyped it up to be. Very few members of the show's main cast actually participated in the titular orgy, with it mainly sticking to unnamed background characters.

Gen V manages to show what "Herogasm" could have been, with it doubling down on weird superhero sex. Not only are characters like Emma and Love Sausage shown off in a sexual context, but strange new sexual supes are shown, such as the one that discharges an odd fluid out of a hole in their back upon orgasm. Main characters in Gen V are also seen having sex throughout, which was one of the biggest disappointments in Gen V. The Boys season 3's "Herogasm" episode is pretty tame compared to what's seen in Gen V, making the episode's letdown even bigger.

Why Gen V Being More Graphic Than The Boys Makes Sense

Although it may seem strange for the spin-off to be more graphic than the original series, it actually makes sense. Gen V takes place at a college, and colleges are known for romance and lots of sex. Most other TV shows focusing on college students are sexual enough, so it makes sense for a franchise known for its graphic content to kick it up a notch. Gen V is raising the bar for what is considered shocking in The Boys franchise, and with several episodes left, Gen V's collegiate escapades may get even more disgusting.

New episodes of Gen V release Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
