Martin Shkreli is an American business executive, entrepreneur and investor. He’s also a convicted felon. He’s best known for hiking drug prices during his tenure as CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. Shkreli was born on March 17, 1983 in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Hunter College High School followed by Bernard Baruch College. He graduated with a degree in business administration in 2005.

CAREER
Shkreli started out as an associate at Cramer Berkowitz at age 17. He spent four years with the company and helped them predict stocks. He worked briefly with Intrepid Capital Management before starting his own hedge fund, Elea Capital Management, in 2006. He co-founded MSMB Capital Management in 2009 and Retrophin LLC in 2011. He resigned from Retrophin in 2014 and was sued by the company in 2015 for $65 million. Shkreli started Turing Pharmaceuticals in February 2015 with the goal of obtaining and repricing out-of-patent medicines. He infamously hiked the price of ‘Daraprim’ from $13.50 to $750 per pill overnight.

Martin Shkreli is 5ft 5in tall and he’s of Albanian and Croatian descent. His net worth is around $50 million. He donated $1 million to his former high school in March 2015. Shkreli was arrested in December 2015 on securities fraud. He was released after posting $5 million bail. In August 2017, he was convicted on three counts of fraud in a federal court. He was sentenced to 7 years in federal prison on March 9, 2018.
